  not just for writers of genre fiction. Even in realistic stories\, a well
 -developed setting sets the foundation for everything built on top of it. 
 In this workshop\, you&rsquo\;ll learn to walk the fine balance between un
 der-developing and over-writing your world and create a solid sense of pla
 ce that securely tethers readers so your plot can soar. This event is part
  of the first annual Lilac City Book Festival.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>About the pr
 esenter:</p>\n<p><a href="https://www.stephanieoakesbooks.com/">Stephanie 
 Oakes</a> is the author of YA novels including <em>The Meadows\, The Sacre
 d Lies of Minnow Bly\,</em> which was a Morris Award finalist\, and <em>Th
 e Arsonist</em>\, which won the Washington State Book Award and was an ALA
 /YALSA Best Fiction for Young Adults pick. A middle school teacher\, Steph
 anie lives in Spokane with her wife and family.</p>\n<p>The Lilac City Boo
 k Festival is a yearly event to support local writers and illustrators of 
 books for children and teenagers. It's organized by Spokane Public Library
  and presented in partnership with <a href="https://wishingtreebookstore.c
 om/">Wishing Tree Books</a> and the local chapter of the <a href="https://
 www.scbwi.org/regions/inlandnw">Society for Children's Book Writers and Il
 lustrators</a> (SCBWI).</p>\n<p>By attending library programs\, you are ag
 reeing to potentially appear in photos/videos taken at our locations that 
 may be used in promotional materials including social media.</p>\n<p>We st
