Four published picture book writers and il lustrators from the Palouse will discuss the art of creating picture books .

The Lilac City Book Festival is a yearly event to support local writers and illustrators of books for children and teenagers. It's organiz ed by Spokane Public Library and presented in partnership with Wishing Tree Books and the local chap ter of the Society for Ch ildren's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).

\n

About the Pres enters:

\n

Jessica Linn Evans is an author-illustrat or and SCBWI member. She renders her art with traditional media including watercolor\, graphite\, and ink. She loves to craft stories where illustra tions do the heavy lifting in tales that include adventure\, friendship\, and a little bit of peril. Jessica lives in the beautiful state of Idaho w ith her husband\, three of her four delightful children\, and a bunny name d Bucky.

\n

Annette Bay Pimentel writes books for ki ds about the people and ideas that shape our world. She's the author of Girl Running\, All the Way to the Top\, Before Colors\, and other b ooks. Her next project\, How a Bear Became a Book\, about the col laboration that created Winnie-the-Pooh\, comes out in 2026. She lives in Moscow\, Idaho\, where she is also an elected Trustee for the Lat ah County Library District.

\n

Eija Sumner is the au thor of the picture books\, Crocodile Hungry and The Good Lit tle Mermaid&rsquo\;s Guide to Bedtime. Eija has an MFA in writing for children and young adults from Hamline University. She is one of two regi onal advisors for the Inland NW region of SCBWI\, and the Idaho chapter le ad for Authors Against Book Bans. She lives in Moscow\, Idaho with her fam ily.

\n

Diane Worthey writes books for children with classical music themes. Her first two books\, In One Ear and Out the Other: Antonia Brico &\; Her Amazingly Musical Life (Penny Candy B ooks\, 2020) and Rise Up with a Song: The True Story of Ethel Smyth\, Suffragette Composer (Bushel &\; Peck Books\, 2022) highlight wome n in classical music who have been overlooked in history. Her forthcoming book\, The Sound Museum: Classical Music\, is an interactive book for children which features over 400 classical music excerpts. It will be released by Bushel &\; Peck on November 4\, 2025. Diane has three more books coming out from Bushel &\; Peck in 2027 and 2028. In addition to writing books for children\, Diane teaches a private studio of violin and viola students in Pullman and performs in the first violin section of the Washington-Idaho Symphony.
