DESCRIPTION:Join writer Tom Houseman for a workshop on writing dialogue. P

X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>In this workshop\, writer Tom Houseman wil
l focus on approaches to writing dialogue in order to overcome some of the
most common traps that writers fall into during dialogue-heavy scenes\, s
uch as:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dialogue that is excessively expository</li>\n<li>C
onversations that are rambling or circular\, or simply don't move the stor
y forward the way that we want them to</li>\n<li>Characters that sound too
similar</li>\n</ul>\n<p>There are many approaches to dialogue writing\, b
ut this workshop will take an "objective" based approach borrowed from sta
ge acting. Using examples from both literature and film\, we will examine
how to identify the objective of each character in a scene\, and how to br
eak the scene down into beats based around those objectives to help give o
ur scenes forward momentum and make our characters active and specific.</p
