X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>Amid the backdrop of a brutal civil war in
their homeland of Syria\, the family of twelve-year-old Jude makes the cr
ucial decision to send her and her mother to live with relatives in Cincin
nati\, Ohio\, leaving her father and brother behind. Jude struggles to ada
pt to living in a big city and starting school knowing almost no one. She
narrates her own story in poetry form\, showing us how she encounters ster
eotypes about being "Middle Eastern" and a new identity as an "Arab Americ
an\," trying to fit into American culture while also keeping her family's
heritage. Author Jasmine Warga has previously been nominated for the Maryl
and Association of School Libraries' Black-Eyed Susan Award for children's
literature\, and "Other Words for Home\," her first book for middle-grad
students\, is a Newbery Honor Award winner.</p>\n<p>If you are in grades 4
