tive created to beautify open land in neighborhoods that have been histori
cally excluded from access to wholistic green spaces. They are committed t
o making a strong contribution to an improved environment\, job creation a

can Life and History (ASALH) has selected&nbsp\;African Americans and Labo
r&nbsp\;as the theme of Black History Month 2025. In celebration of this t
heme\, Toledo Library is hosting programs throughout February that spotlig
ht Black-owned businesses in Lucas County.</p>\n<p><br />From the ASALH we
 bsite (asalh.org):</p>\n<p><br /><em>The 2025 Black History Month theme\,
African Americans\, and Labor\, focuses on the various and profound ways t
hat work and working of all kinds &ndash\; free and unfree\, skilled\, and
unskilled\, vocational and voluntary &ndash\; intersect with the collecti
ve experiences of Black people. Indeed\, work is at the very center of muc
h of Black history and culture. Be it the traditional agricultural labor o
f enslaved Africans that fed Low Country colonies\, debates among Black ed
ucators on the importance of vocational training\, self-help strategies an
d entrepreneurship in Black communities\, or organized labor&rsquo\;s role
in fighting both economic and social injustice\, Black people&rsquo\;s wo
rk has been transformational throughout the U.S.\, Africa\, and the Diaspo
ra. The 2025 Black History Month theme\, &ldquo\;African Americans and Lab
or\,&rdquo\; sets out to highlight and celebrate the potent impact of this
  work.</em></p>\n<p></p>\nhttps://toledo.libnet.info/event/12558165
