X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>The book chosen for this month's discussio
 n is "<strong>The Glass Hotel</strong>" by <em>Emily St. John Mandel</em>.
 &nbsp\;It's essentially a novel about the Great Recession of 2008 and\, at
  its heart\, features a fictionalized version of the Ponzi scheme that Ber
 nard Madoff profited from. At the heart of the novel is the life of a youn
 g woman named&nbsp\;Vincent\, a hotel worker in a five-star hotel on an is
 land off the coast of British Columbia\, and&nbsp\;an ultra-wealthy con ma
 n. It follows the important points of her life through to her mysterious d
 isappearance from an international shipping vessel in 2018.&nbsp\;Along th
 e way\, the book explores a Ponzi scheme\, the international art market\,
 and the heights and depths of economic social status in America. It&nbsp\;
 captures how precarious life is\, in a way that feels particularly resonan
 t now.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p><em>Copies of this book are available at the check
  out desk\, while supplies last.</em></p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Take a look at <spa
