X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p><em>Between War and Nostalgia: A Ukrainian
Trajectory</em>&nbsp\;is a group exhibition that considers and reflects o
n Ukraine&rsquo\;s recent history and its emergence as a post-Soviet natio
n while grappling with invasion and war. The artists in the exhibit stare
directly at Russia&rsquo\;s assaults on their homeland and the ravages it
has wreaked on their communities\, psyche\, and property while articulatin
g their relationship to their homeland through memory\, family\, and retur
 n. Collectively\, the artists construct a vision of Ukrainian resilience a
nd defiance.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Against this backdrop\, the artists in <em>Bet
ween War&nbsp\;and&nbsp\;Nostalgia</em> willfully straddle multiple border
s between Ukraine and the Ukrainian diaspora. Four Ukraine-based artists&m
 dash\;Oleksandr Glyadelov\, Maksym Mazur\, Mariia Matiienko\, and Andrii P
idlisnyi&mdash\;have witnessed the occupation\, independence and the horro
rs of war\, and their work is an unflinching expression of their experienc
es. Whether documentary or conceptual\, the artists address their lived ex
periences. Jennifer Remenchik\, Yuri Boyko\, and christy roberts berkowitz
are based in Los Angeles and have deep connections to Ukraine\, either hi
storically or through more recent returns. Their work speaks to the nuance
s of diasporic life: reflections on distance from the homeland and grappli
ng with memory.</p>\n<p>In the PassageWay Gallery\, photographic work co-c
urated by Glenn Ruga\, founder and director of Social Documentary Network\
, spans a wide range of Ukrainian life from the urban every day\, to ravag
es of war\, to farm life.</p>\n<p>Taken together\, the artists in <em>Betw
een War&nbsp\;and&nbsp\;Nostalgia</em> present a personal and panoramic vi
ew of Ukraine today&mdash\;its defiance and nuanced lived experience.</p>\
 n<p>The exhibition&nbsp\;is co-curated by&nbsp\;Ara &amp\; Anahid Oshagan
and Glenn Ruga and will be on view December 21\, 2024 - March 9\, 2025. An
artist reception will be held on Saturday\, January 4\, 2025\, 6:30 PM &n
 dash\; 8:30 PM. For more information\, visit&nbsp\;<a href="https://www.re
