The adult class will focus on the Harlem R
enaissance (1918&ndash\;1937)\, a cultural movement celebrating Black iden
tity\, creativity\, and intellectual achievement\, particularly in Harlem\
, New York. Black artists played a pivotal role in shaping the visual repr
esentation of this era\, using their work to express cultural pride\, chal
lenge stereotypes\, and celebrate African heritage. \;
Artists de
picted the beauty and dignity of Black life and culture\, countering negat
ive portrayals in mainstream media. Their works often celebrated everyday
life\, African traditions\, and the resilience of Black communities. \

We will focus on painting depictions of artwork from Archibald Motl
ey\, who captured the vibrancy of Black urban life in Harlem and Chicago t
hrough paintings like Nightlife\, showcasing music\, dance\, and social in
teractions. Participants will then create a painting of their own work of
art. Registration is required.
