 That music is SO romantic!&rdquo\;? What does that mean? Is it music that 
 is sappy and ooey-gooey? Is it music associated with a special time or eve
 nt in our lives? Does it include a story? Interestingly\, in Western music
  history\, an entire era &ndash\; essentially the nineteenth century &ndas
 h\; is typically categorized as being "Romantic." Really? An entire era? T
 his interactive lecture will discuss various characteristics of music from
  the Romantic Era\, and we&rsquo\;ll explore reasons why the term "Romanti
 c" has been consistently applied to this music. Then we&rsquo\;ll compare 
 the qualities of nineteenth-century Romanticism with our contemporary inte
 rpretations and see how they stack up.</p>\n<p><strong>Michael Gesme</stro
 ng> is the conductor of the Central Oregon Symphony and a Professor of Mus
 ic at Central Oregon Community College where he teaches courses in Music T
 heory\, Music History\, Ear Training\, and Conducting. He received a Bache
 lor of Arts Degree from Luther College in Decorah\, Iowa\, and a Masters o
 f Music Degree in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Missouri-Co
 lumbia. Gesme also conducts the Cascade Winds Symphonic Band\, the Central
  Oregon Chamber Orchestra and various productions for OperaBend.</p>\n<p>Q
