The female pilots of World War II (WASP) f lew jets and sometimes new planes the men avoided. They ferried aircraft f rom the factory to airbases to free male pilots for combat. They endured d iscrimination and were paid less than men for the same job. The Women Air Force Service Pilots had no military standing and received no veterans ben efits\, but they proved women could fly planes as well as men and in time they received their due recognition.
