The Fabyan Japanese Garden is a one-acre o utdoor garden within the 250-acre Fabyan Forest Preserve designed by regar ded landscape architect\, Taro Otsuka\, around 1910. Colonel George and Ne lle Fabyan commissioned Otsuka to create their Japanese Garden because of their interest in Japanese culture and their love of nature. Many features typical of Japanese gardens are present such as a tea house\, lanterns (m ade of concrete)\, a pond\, a moon bridge\, and a wide variety of trees an d plants. Join us for a visual treat in this lecture by Vivian Lasken\, Di rector of the Fabyan Villa and Japanese Garden.
\nVivien Lasken is t he Director of the Fabyan Villa and Japanese Garden and the leading expert on Colonel Fabyan and the Riverbank estate. She has a degree in Anthropol ogy with a focus in Archaeology and Museum Studies from UIUC. Vivien has w orked at the Spurlock Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry prior to Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley.
