Dr. Howard Jeffrey Bender has had a distin guished career in scientific research. He holds a B.S. in Science from Pen n State University\, an M.S. in Computer Science from the Polytechnic Inst itute of New York\, and a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Maryla nd. While at Penn State University\, he studied Jupiter's Great Red Spot u sing radio astronomy and discovered a new variety of tin while assisting i n high-pressure physics research. He conducted physical and chemical analy ses at the U.S. Customs Laboratory in New York for three years\, was a com puter scientist at NASA for 13 years\, and taught software engineering at the University of Maryland for 27 years.
