We are thrilled to host curator Justin Wit te to share the background of the Japanese art form known as &ldquo\;Ukiyo -e\,&rdquo\; or &ldquo\;floating world images\,&rdquo\; in which artists d epict an idealized world of grandeur\, class\, wit\, style\, and pleasure\ , created during Japan&rsquo\;s Edo Period (1603-1868). Works by acclaimed artists Hokusai and Hiroshige provide a window into life during a time wh en the City of Edo (present-day Tokyo) thrived as the center of Japan&rsqu o\;s economy and culture. In addition\, Witte will give you an inside snea k peek into the exhibition coming this summer to the McAninch Arts Center and Cleve Carney Museum of Art.

stin Witte is the director and curator of the Cleve Carney Art Gallery. He
was the former exhibition manager at Columbia College Chicago and has wor
ked at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and the Institute of Cont
emporary Art in Philadelphia. Witte received his MFA in Studio Art from th
e University of Illinois at Chicago. He is a past recipient of the Pew Fel
lowship for painting.
About the Exhibit
The Cleve Carney Museum of Art (CCMA) and McAninch Art Center\, (MAC) lo
cated on at the College of DuPage (COD)\, 425 Fawell Blvd.\, has announced
the next major summer art exhibition coming in 2025: &ldquo\;Hokusai and
Ukiyo-e: The Floating World\, Artworks from the Chiossone Collection.&rdqu
o\; The exhibition will feature over 50 original works by renowned artists
from the Japanese Edo Period\, along with several educational and interac
tive experiences and installations throughout the MAC. The exhibition is o
rganized by the Cleve Carney Museum of Art in collaboration with The Edoar
do Chiossone Museum of Oriental Art of Genoa\, and with the support of Mon
doMostre.
