For Indigenous people\, storytelling is bo th a gift\, and a very old custom\, used to teach\, entertain\, and rememb er. Since 2004\, the LSSAP (Library Services for Saskatchewan Aboriginal P eoples Inc.) committee has coordinated Saskatchewan Indigenous Storytellin g Month. Through the month of February\, storytelling events are held by l ibraries and their partners in communities throughout Saskatchewan.
\n< p>The goals of SIS Month are:\nTo support and promote F irst Nations\, Metis &\; Inuit oral storytelling traditions in Saskatch ewan\;
\nTo celebrate First Nations\, Metis &\; Inui t history\, language &\; culture\;
\nTo promote cros s-cultural relationships and understanding by promoting storytelling as an important foundational cultural activity\;
\nTo facili tate and grow a living oral storytelling collection\;
\nTo share the vision of the LSSAP Committee: LSSAP collaborates through pa rtnerships to enrich communities by promoting and improving library servic es for Aboriginal peoples.

\nCarol Rose G oldenEagle was appointed Saskatchewan&rsquo\;s Poet Laureate in 2021. She was named as a Member of the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in 2022 for her y ears of cross-cultural work within the Arts &\; Culture community. Caro l has several books on the market. Her 5th novel\, Joe\, will be released in 2025\, as well as two of her children&rsquo\;s titles\, Mo ss Guide \;and \;Mother Nature: My Favourite Artist.
\nShe is an Author of award-winning novel Bear skin Diary\, which was chosen as the National Aboriginal Literatu re Title for 2017. The French language translation of this novel\, entitle d Peau D&rsquo\;ours won a Saskatchewan Book Award in 2019.
\nHer latest novel\, The Narrow s of Fear (wapawikoscikanik)\, was the chosen winner for a 2021 S askatchewan Book Award. Other titles\, including Hira eth\, Essential Ingredients: A Poetry Collec tion\, Bone Black and Stations of the \;Crossed have each been sho rtlisted for Saskatchewan Book Awards. Another collection of poetry\, Singing to the Moon - Indigenous Poetry for Children\, will be releas ed by Medicine Wheel Publishing in 2025.
\nCarol is Cree and Dene wi th roots in Northern Saskatchewan.
