\nThe Archaeological Society of Centra l Oregon invites you to explore the topic of archaeology -- the study of p eople from the past. Archaeologists learn about past cultures by studying the artifacts left behind\; a sherd of broken pottery\, a stone tool\, a b roken wagon wheel. By uncovering and studying the evidence of past lives\, archaeologists discover many things about their culture -- from what they ate and how they lived\, to the environment in which they made their home s. \;

The Archaeological Society of Central Oregon (ASCO) is a group of amateur\, avocational\, and professional archaeologists who share common interests in the history and prehistory of Central Orego n. "Our primary goal is to stimulate public interest in preservation of an d research into our past life ways. Society members believe that through t heir participation they can help conserve and bring to life many of the va nishing pages of history for future generations. \nEileen Tannich Gose has a Ba chelor's degree in Anthropology and a Master's degree in Education. She is a member of the Archaeological Society of Central Oregon and the Deschute s County Historical Society. In the past\, she was involved in the Colorad o Archaeological Society and was selected for several education grants fro m the Colorado State Historic Fund\, the Colorado Historical Society and t he American Rock Art Research Association.
\nIn the areas of scholar ship\, she developed a teacher's guide for classes in archaeology and hist oric preservation\, co-authored a guide to historic preservation of archit ecture and archaeology\, and created educational hands-on trunks to educat e the public about archaeology. Additionally\, she created children's acti vity books that teach about archaeological sites. Eileen has participated in many archaeological excavations including precontact and post-contact s ites in Colorado and New Mexico. However\, her most exciting excavations w ere at a Neanderthal cave in Belgium and a Roman site in France.
\nS upporting her education and classroom experience\, Eileen has traveled ext ensively in Europe\, seeing many of the most important archaeological site s\, including Paleolithic painted caves in France\, Stonehenge\, Pompeii a nd other Roman sites\, passage tombs in Ireland\, and even the Classical s ites in Greece and Egypt. Her passion in life is to use her education and experiences to inspire others to appreciate and protect our past.
