\ nThis session will take you through various facets of love\, whether ba sking in love's warm glow or yearning for its embrace. Claim the power of your personal memories and insights through poetic exploration\, creative exercises\, peer sharing\, and literary strategies. \;No prior poetry writing experience necessary\, but it would be helpful if you bring a draf t of a poem that you are working on for the holiday. All levels welcome!\n
Instructor Laura McDermott Matheric's first book o f poetry\, Visions on Alligator Alley was published by Lominy Books in 201 5. A Professor of English\, Laura regularly teaches writing workshops and literature courses at Broward College and throughout the community. Recent publications include \;The Closed Eye Open\, \;The Sad Girl Diari es\, \;Purple Ink Press\, and \;Chameleon Chimera. Her second book of poetry\, \;Mö\;bius Love Song\, was a semifinalist in the 2023 Button Poetry Chapbook Contest. \;She was appointed the first Poet La ureate of the City of Coconut Creek in 2022\, first of any municipality in Broward County Florida\, furthering her efforts to support growth in educ ation\, the arts\, and the community. She holds an M.F.A in Creative Writi ng from Florida International University\, and currently\, Laura is pursui ng her Ph.D. in Higher Educational Leadership &\; Research Methodology at Florida Atlantic University.
