Inspired by the iconic Black fiber artist and activist\, Joyce J. Scott\, this workshop highlights the African Ameri can tradition of using scraps of fabric\, often discarded clothing\, cutti ng them into strips and weaving the fabric into new beautiful and/or pract ical items. This reuse of fabric requires us to tie the pieces together an d is often done in community spaces. As we tie together\, we cultivate tha t energy into the item itself\, which are called &ldquo\;Forget-Me-Knots.& rdquo\; Bring in your own washed and clean retired clothes to transform in class!

You&rsquo\;re invited to interweave yourself into the community th rough this expansive beginner&rsquo\;s sewing series. Your instructor\, Ja ckie Drummond (they/she)\, will be guiding you through the basics of using a sewing machine and various stitching and sewing methods through all of February. You can come to each lesson or hop around into whatever class\, skill or interest calls you! See the complete list of classes h ere.

Scott\, este taller resalta la tradici&oacut e\;n afroamericana de usar retazos\, que por lo general se tiran\, cortado s en tiras y entretejidos con la tela para formar artí\;culos hermos os o prá\;cticos. Esta manera de reusar tela requiere anudar las pie zas juntas y se hace por lo general en espacios comunitarios. En este taller\, los miembros de la comunidad aprenderá\;n a cortar telas\, anudar nudos inolvidables \, compartir historias y crear artí\;culos originales: un tazó \;n\, un tapete pequeñ\;o\, individuales o un juego de posavasos.
