\nLé\;onard Rosmarin \;is Professor Em eritus of French Literature and former Chair of the Department of Modern L anguages at Brock University in Ontario\, Canada. He is the author of fift een books\, including literary essays and translations. His most recent wr itings include six essays in the Histoire juive de la France published by Albin Michel. He has been decorated twice by the Government of France for outstanding service in the cause of French Letters\, and he has made annua l visits to France over the past fifty years. He lives with his wife in th e Toronto\, Ontario\, area. \;
