Matthew Desmond is a professor of sociolog y at Princeton University and author of the award-winning book Evicted: Po verty and Profit in the American City. Desmond&rsquo\;s research focuses o n poverty in the United States\, city life\, housing insecurity\, public p olicy\, racial inequality\, and ethnography. \;Desmond is the recipien t of a MacArthur &ldquo\;Genius&rdquo\; Fellowship and was listed in 2016 among the Politico 50\, as one of &ldquo\;fifty people across the country who are most influencing the national political debate.&rdquo\;
