Actress Michè\;le LaRue performs sel ections from four volumes by Warren Kliewer\, including his "Poems around and about theatres"--which he called "a glimpse into the private lives of a public art form." This exuberant spoken-word performance also glimpses i nto the private and public lives of the author\, who grew up in rural Minn esota &ndash\; in a community of German-speaking Mennonites whose values a nd traditions frowned upon the frivolous.
\nKliewer was a much-publi shed poet and essayist before he ran away to join the theatre &ndash\; as actor\, director\, playwright\, and producer. From a nightmare-ridden scen ic designer to a day-dreaming gardener\, from a bewildered New York playwr ight to a stubborn Kansas farm wife\, from an accident-prone diva to an ad venturing eight-year-old: these poems are tiny one-acts of compelling dram a and insightful comedy.
\nMentored by Kliewer\, Michè\;le LaR ue \;has specialized in performances of literature from America&rsquo\ ;s Gilded Age for 30 years and tours nationally with a varied repertoire o f \;Tales Well Told. Her vibrant and skillful interpretation of Kliewe r's more contemporary characters will dazzle attendees and honor National Poetry Month with theatrical flair. \;
