our story! The African American Research Library and Cultural Center and B
roward County Library's Special Collection Division invite local residents
to participate in oral history recording sessions dedicated to&nbsp\;The
 20th of May&mdash\;Florida&rsquo\;s&nbsp\;Emancipation&nbsp\;Day on May 20
-21\, 2025. Whether you have personal memories of celebrating this histori
c occasion\, stories passed down through generations\, or insights into it
s significance\, your voice is vital in keeping this legacy alive.</p>\n<p
 >On May 20\, 1865\, enslaved people in Florida learned of their freedom&md
ash\;two years after the&nbsp\;Emancipation&nbsp\;Proclamation and one mon
th after the conclusion of the US Civil War. For generations\, communities
across the state have commemorated this day with parades\, music\, and re
flection. We want to hear from you if you or your family have traditions t
ied to this important milestone.</p>\n<p>These recordings will become part
of AARLCC's permanent archive\, ensuring that the voices and experiences
of those who honor Florida&rsquo\;s&nbsp\;Emancipation&nbsp\;Day are prese
rved for future generations. Don&rsquo\;t miss this opportunity to contrib
ute to history!</p>\n<p>Interested in sharing your story?&nbsp\;Contact us
