As a home for intellectual freedom\, can libraries remind Canadians what democracy is all about\, and which val ues are still worth fighting for? Join CBC IDEAS host\, Nahlah Ayed\, in d iscussion with author Ira Wells (On Book Banning)\, librarians\, and a com munity audience at Burlington Public Library.
\nThis event is presen ted in collaboration with CBC IDEAS as part of a cross-Canada series about the health of our democracy\, focusing on local solutions with the potent ial to inspire national change. \;Moderated by Nahlah Ayed\, the discu ssions will be recorded in Burlington\, Charlottetown\, Edmonton\, and Nan aimo for CBC&rsquo\;s IDEAS for a Better Canada series. \;The series i s part of the CBC Collab fund and in partnership with the Samara Centre fo r Democracy.

\nNahlah \;Ayed \;is th e host CBC Radio&rsquo\;s IDEAS and a veteran of foreign reporting: first\ , in the Middle East and later\, in London\, where she covered many of the major stories of our time: the rise of authoritarianism\, the return of w ar to Europe\, and the worldwide refugee crisis. Nahlah&rsquo\;s work has been recognized through numerous national and international awards and hon ourary degrees. \;She is the author of two books\, both national bests ellers. \;

His writing has appeared in \;The Atlantic\, Globe and M ail\, Guardian\, The New Republic\, and many other publications. His most recent book On Book Banning \;is a ral lying cry for intellectual freedom in an increasingly polarized society\, and guide to resistance for those who will always insist upon reading for themselves.
