X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>Often the "Muse" comes from the quotidian
aspects of everyday living: watering our plants\, a faded sign we see on t
he street\, browsing the fruit aisle\, a Polaroid that catches our eye\, a
conversation we overhear. But many times\, a poem is born from deep emoti
 ons&mdash\;memories of our past\, a special wedding\, falling in love or s
uffering through a difficult breakup\, death of a loved one. <em>This</em>
is also where poems come from.</p>\n<p>Each week&rsquo\;s session will ex
plore a variety of poems that deal with&nbsp\;specific topics\, such as me
mory\, love\, grief\, and humor. We will explore how poets deal differentl
y with similar subjects&mdash\;how some sad topics and events can be writt
en about in a humorous way. Reading other people&rsquo\;s poems will provi
de students with ideas and prompts for their own work. This fun\, inspirin
g\, and provocative examination of poems that deal with the core topics of
Poetry and Memory\, Poetry and Humor\, Poetry and Grief\, Poetry and Love
will be used as prompts for student&rsquo\;s automatic writing which they
will share in class. Through positive\, constructive\, nonjudgmental feed
back&nbsp\;offered in a cozy and creative environment\, each student will
receive encouragement and unique recognition and will go home with work th
ey can develop into poems. Sponsored&nbsp\;by the Friends of the West Holl
ywood Library.</p>\n<p>Attendance is limited\, and advance registration is
required. This will be used to save your spot in the program. We cannot g
uarantee availability for any unregistered attendees. This is the first of
  a three-program series that will be held on May 3\, 10\, and 17. <strong>
