In partnership with Oakland Creates founde r Avy Jetter\, we will be holding 5 workshops teaching how to make zine an d comics that will lead up to the THP South Zine &\; Comic Fest in Augu st. \;
\nIn these workshops you will be introduced to what zines
are and the basics of how to make them. You will be creating content for
zines\, brainstorming ideas and then learning how to develop art for zines
or storytelling in zine and comic format.
We will first be going ove
r materials\, ideas and finding your voice. Then explore how to use materi
als and how to source materials. Finding what is it that you would like to
say? These workshops will help you tell your story with the tools that yo
u have.
What is Oakland Creates?
\nOakland Creates Art\, Comics and Zine Fest began as a vision about bringi ng folks together through art and giving them an opportunity to present th eir best selves\, learn how to make a living while both interacting and se rving their community with positive action. A vision to help empower folks to learn about themselves and develop themselves in multiple areas of the lives whether it&rsquo\;s education\, healing\, leadership or fulfilling their own art vision for their lives.
\nOakland Creates prioritizes women of color\, Queer\, Disabled\, Black artists and or any underrepresen ted artists whether they be new or emerging artists just starting out or a rtists that just have not been given proper promotion or marketing. Oaklan d Creates holds space and gives opportunities to amazing creative folk who have something awesome to say to the world and our local community. Oakla nd Creates celebrates storytelling and positive engagement.
\nWho is Avy Jetter?
Avy Jetter writes\, draws a nd self publishes the comic book series Nuthin Good Ever Happens at 4 a.m. a horror comic set in dystopian Oakland CA. featuring primarily a BIPOC cast of characters fighting their way through hordes of zombies. A huge horror and sci-fi movie fan\, she enjoys all things blood and guts\, strange and creepy. \;She also writes\, illustrates and self publish es zines about mental health\, grief and healing as well as Black history. Avy lives and works in Oakland CA. and devotes her time to organizing com munity events and zine fests.
