The photographs are from 1981 and 1982\, when the band was at i ts most fiery musical heights. \nGLEN E. FRIEDMA N\, one of the most important photographers of his generation\, is known f or his influential and iconic images of rebellious artists from classic sk ateboarding\, punk\, and hip-hop cultures. As a true artist his process wa s much more incendiary than it was documentary. Friedman\, first published at the age of fourteen\, has produced over one hundred record covers\, co untless magazine pages\, and almost a dozen books\, including \;Just a Minor Threat\, \;What I See: The Black Flag Photographs\, \;Keep Your Eyes Open\, \;DogTown: The Legend of the Z-Boys\, \;The Ideal ist\, \;Recognize\, \;My Rules\, and \;Together Forever: The R un-DMC and Beastie Boys Photographs. \nIan Mackaye founded D ischord Records as a teenager in 1980 with partner Jeff Nelson. Their orig inal intent was simply to release a single to document their recently defu nct band\, \;Teen Idles. However\, the label has gone on to release mu sic from more than 60 bands\, with more than 160 albums over the last 25 y ears and counting. As musicians Ian and Jeff went on to form \;Minor T hreat\, who along with Bad Brains are credited in the early 80s with intro ducing the D.C. hardcore ethic to an audience well beyond Washington\, D.C . In 1986\, Ian formed \;Fugazi \;with Joe Lally\, Brendan Canty a nd Guy Picciotto. Over 20+ years the band has released seven albums and to ured the world extensively covering all fifty United States\, Europe\, Aus tralia\, South America\, Japan and many points in between. Fugazi is self managed and maintains a policy of affordable access to their work through low record and ticket prices and all concerts are all-ages. In 2003 Fugazi decided to take an indefinite hiatus from recording and touring as young families and other priorities began to take center stage. Since 2001\, Ian has played in \;The Evens\, a duo with Amy Farina. The Evens revel in short-circuiting the conventions of rock music and perform mostly in non- traditional music spaces &mdash\; libraries\, art spaces\, schools\, theat ers\, etc. They have released two albums and have toured extensively in No rth America\, Europe\, South America\, Australia\, and New Zealand. Ian ha s also been taking on speaking engagements\, delivering talks that take th e form of informal Question and Answer sessions.
