This activity will be held twice in early
May\, at the beginning of the spring migration season. This is the time of
year when birds are most active and vocal. In addition\, at this time of
year the trees are just beginning to leaf in\, so the birds are easier to
spot. During the walk we will be visiting the Environmental Commission's r
iparian habitat restoration project at the east end of the lake. This rest
oration project has improved and increased habitat available for both migr
atory and nesting birds. \;
While this is geared towards beginnin
g birders\, all birders are welcome.
Sturdy shoes are recommended and
while the library has seven pairs of binoculars that may be shared by the
group\, registrants are encouraged to bring their own binoculars if avail
able. Registrants will meet in the Watchung Library at 20 Stirling Rd. par
king lot and walk down to Best Lake together. This program is intended to
be accessible and will be held on the paved paths around Best Lake. People
who use a wheelchair or for other reasons wish to avoid stairs\, may meet
at the front of the library and then proceed by car to the Best Lake park
ing lot\, or may elect to meet at the lot rather than at the library.
