The Scent of Bright Light \;r eimagines \;of the story of \;the Biblical matriarch Sarah \;t hrough the lens of her relationship with Ta-Sherit\, the Egyptian girl she loves and raises like a daughter\, while others call the girl &ldquo\;Hag ar&rdquo\; and shrug her off as a servant. In her own voice\, Sarah tells the story of \;her \;life with Abraham\, her time in Pharaoh&rsquo \;s harem\, her struggle with infertility\, her expertise as a midwife\, a nd what she and Abraham thought would happen if he sacrificed their son. T he biblical text becomes a new story when it comes from Sarah in her own v oice.
\nJean K. Dudek \;is a Teaching Assistant at Wesley Theolo gical Seminary in Washington\, DC. She received her Master of Theological Studies degree\, with honors\, with a concentration in biblical studies fr om Wesley and her Juris Doctor degree from New York University School of L aw. She is a graduate of Smith College. \;The Scent of Bright Ligh t \;is her first novel.
