 ward winning Ra&uacute\;l Col&oacute\;n\, <em>The Peanut Man</em> is the s
 tory of a Cuban refugee and her joy in an unexpected encounter that connec
 ts her beloved home in Havana with her new home in Atlanta.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p
 >Lauren will be reading her debut picture book\, <em>New Shoes for Leo</em
 >. Award-winning artist Susan Gal joins forces with Lauren in this charmin
 g\, heartfelt picture book story about an immigrant family?and their love 
 and caring for family they left behind.</p>\n<p>This program is sponsored 
 by Georgia Public Library System and funded through the Institute of Museu
 m and Library Services.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p style="text-align: center\;"><str

 ong></p>\n<hr />\n<p><strong>Carmen Agra Deedy</strong>\, is an award-winn
 ing author of fifteen books for young readers\, including <em>The Rooster 
 Who Would Not Be Quiet!\, Martina the Beautiful Cockroach\, Rita and Ralph
 &rsquo\;s Rotten Day\, and 14 Cows for America</em>\, a New York Times Bes
 tseller. Her latest books are\, <em>Wombat Said Come In\,</em> released in
  October 2022\, and <em>Carina Felina</em>\, to be released in Fall 2023.<
 /p>\n<p>Her personal stories first appeared on NPR&rsquo\;s All Things Con
 sidered. Funny\, insightful\, and frequently irreverent\, Deedy&rsquo\;s n
 arratives are culled from her childhood as a Cuban refugee in Decatur\, Ge
 orgia. She is host of the four-time Emmy-winning children&rsquo\;s program
 \, Love That Book!</p>\n<p>Deedy is also an accomplished lecturer\, having
  been a guest speaker for the Library of Congress\, Columbia University\, 
 both the TED and TEDx Conference\, and the Kennedy Center\, among other di
 stinguished venues. An editor\, and life-long advocate for libraries\, she
  serves on the Advisory Board of Smithsonian Libraries and Archives.&nbsp\
 ;</p>\n<p><strong>Lauren Agra Deedy</strong> graduated from Emory Universi
 ty before receiving her MPhil in Literatures of the Americas from Trinity 
 College in Dublin. Like William in the story\, Lauren is the child and gra
 ndchild of refugees\, and grew up helping them make care packages for fami
 ly still living in communist Cuba.&nbsp\;<em>New Shoes for Leo</em>&nbsp\;
 is her picture book debut. Lauren lives with her husband and family in Atl
