trong> and playback will not be available. Please arrive on time.</p>\n<p>
</p>\n<p>A whole story in just a few hundred words . . . it hardly seems p
ossible\, but such notable authors as Kate Chopin\, William Somerset Maugh
 am\, O. Henry\, Ernest Hemingway\, Kurt Vonnegut\, Jr.\, Isaac Asimov\, an
d Philip K. Dick have written notable stories of under a thousand words. F
lash fiction stories\, sometimes called "short short stories\," are a mast
erclass in craft\, requiring the author to distill their story to its abso
lute core essence. For all that\, a good flash story can deliver an emotio
nal punch in the gut\, and have a staying power far beyond its wordcount.
From an aspiring writer's standpoint\, flash stories are also arguably eas
ier to sell\, since they require less investment of money or space from a
market. Flash fiction stories can also be written in much less time than l
onger stories\, allowing authors to have more stories in circulation or mo
re published stories.</p>\n<p>Participants will learn: 1) How to know befo
re writing a story whether it can be told in under a thousand words. 2) Wh
at gives a successful short short story its emotional heft. 3) How to make
story elements do double duty in order to get more accomplished with fewe
r words. 4) How to find markets to sell short short fiction to.</p>\n<p></
