 ps://otpmd.ch/about/"><strong>ORCHESTRE TOUT PUISSANT MARCEL DUCHAMP</stro
ng></a><br />Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp is a perpetually evolv
ing &lsquo\;orchestra&rsquo\;\, loosely modelled on the great 20th-century
African groups like Tout Puissant Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou and ti
pping its hat to revolutionary French artist Marcel Duchamp.<br />The orch
estra was comprised of an international cast of 12 musicians including man
y OTPMD regulars: Frenchman Gilles Poizat on bugle\, lead vocalist Liz Mos
carola\, two marimba players (A&iuml\;da Diop and Elena Beder)\, two drumm
ers (Gabriel Valtchev and Guillaume Lantonnet)\, guitarists (Romane Millet
  and Titi)\, a trombonist (Gif)\, a viola-player (Thomas Malnati-Levier)\,
a cellist (Naomi Mabanda) and Bertholet on double bass. Every one of the
musicians is a singer too\, contributing to the glorious mass of vocals th
at gives OTPMD songs their emotional resonance and ritualistic power. They
also worked with new vocalists: Mara Krastina (who will be more involved
with the group in future) from Swiss band Massicot on Smiling Like A Flowe
r and Fran&ccedil\;ois Marry from French group Fr&agrave\;n&ccedil\;ois an
d the Atlas Mountains &ndash\; you can hear the latter&rsquo\;s distinctiv
ely lilting tone on Tout Haut. Following the release of We&rsquo\;re Ok Bu
t We&rsquo\;re Lost Anyway also on Swiss label Bongo Joe\, the group &ndas
 h\; a travelling party of 14 people\, including two sound engineers &ndash
\; crossed numerous borders themselves\, playing around 150 shows and tour
ing in territories they&rsquo\;d never visited before: Canada\, USA\, the
 Balkans\, Greece.</p>\n<p><strong>LIGHT BEAMS</strong></p>\n<p>Light Beams
began in 2015 when Justin Moyer (Puff Pieces) -- influenced by 80s-era fr
eestyle music and Sheila E. -- started playing sampler and timbales with S
am 'n'\, the longtime drummer of D.C. hip-hop mainstays the Cornel West Th
eory. With the addition of bassist Arthur Noll the result- 'n' polyrhythmi
 c melange\, sometimes called "zap-tone" or "block rock\," reinvents late-2
0th century dance-pop using the tools of the 21st.</p>\n<p><strong>BIRTHDA
 Y GIRL</strong></p>\n<p>DC-based alt-rock girl group\, semi-spawn of Fugaz
i.</p>\n<p>Birthday Girl &amp\; Light Beams will open starting at 6\, Orch
estre will perform afterwards.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>In case of rain we'll be mov
ing indoors to our homies Haydee's at 3102 Mt. Pleasant St.&nbsp\;</p>\nht
