n August 4th at the Redmond Library to celebrate Bracero Program Day and l
earn how the Bracero Program contributed to the agricultural success of Re
dmond and Central Oregon. This day honors the contributions to our farming
community of the Bracero workers &mdash\; Mexican men who came to the Uni
ted States on short term contracts &mdash\; and recognizes their sacrifice
 s\, hard work\, and dedication.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p><br />The Bracero Program i
s one of the untold chapters of the history of the city of Redmond. The pr
ogram began in 1942 and helped Central Oregon sustain agricultural product
ion during World War II\, in particular\, the potato harvest during a time
when potatoes were &ldquo\;king of the crops.&rdquo\; Braceros faced many
  hardships\, including violence\, discrimination\, unfair labor practices\
, and substandard living conditions. The Redmond Bracero camp was located
at the old Grange Hall\, original CCC Camp Barracks\, and the Army Airfiel
d (where the Redmond Airport is currently located) from 1943 to 1962.</p>\
n<p><br />Community members are welcome to come starting at 4 p.m. to expl
ore a bilingual exhibit\, to learn about how to support our local Latine c
ommunity\, and to enjoy light appetizers. A short presentation on the Brac

reina de los cultivos. Los Braceros enfrentaron muchas dificultades\, com
