\nAbout a Boy is a surprisingly sharp and heartfelt comedy that balances wit with genuine emotional depth. The film gives Sally Hawkins another opportunity to deliver a tran scendent performance\, as she did in Guillermo del Toro&rsquo\;s The Shape of Water (2017). She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Osc ars for both films.
