For this month's book club\, we \;disc uss Niccolò\; Machiavelli's foundational work on politics\, \;The Prince.

Dispensing with the idealism w hich was the center of political thought up until his day\, Machiavelli co mposed The Prince as a practical guide for rulin g (though some scholars argue that the book was intended as a satire and e ssentially a guide on how not to rule). This goal is evident from the very beginning\, with the dedication of the book to Lorenzo de' Medici\, the r uler of Florence. The Prince is not particularly theoretical or abstract\; its prose is simple and its logic straightforwa rd. These traits underscore Machiavelli's desire to provide practical\, ea sily understandable advice.
