\n

The session for August will focus o n the what many critics have called the quintessential American art form: Jazz.

\n

Starting in the early 20th century from a "rich cultural her itage rooted in the African-American experience\," (Jazz in America) jazz has become a global phenomenon\, spreading this uniquely American art form to the fa r corners of our world. This session will look at the breadth of jazz and its various subgenres.

\n

From the swing and energy of bebop and big band music\, to the aural explorations of free jazz\, fusion\, and beyond\ , library staff will pull highlights from our collection and their own lis tening to share this vibrant and important genre with you.
