Verdi's Trio: Il Trovatore\, Rigoletto\, L a Traviata

In one of the most amazing bursts of compositional i nspiration\, Giuseppe Verdi composed three of the greatest and most belove d operas within a period of less than two years. Il Trovatore\, Rigoletto\ , and La Traviata were audience favorites from their very first performanc es between 1851 and 1853. Each has its own individual feeling\, setting\, characterization\, and aesthetic. Il Trovatore is rooted in the bel canto traditions made popular by Bellini and Donizetti. Rigoletto is rooted in t he romantic fervor of the 19th century. La Traviata is an early example of a growing trend towards realism. Each remains popular 170 years later and are among the most performed operas in the world. They are part of the co re of every opera company as well as every opera performer. Maestro Butts has conducted Il Trovatore in Constanta\, Romania and Rigoletto and La Tra viata in New Jersey in both concert and staged productions. Maestro Robert Butts will discuss the importance of these operas as well as looking at t he drama and music in depth as they are integral to Verdi's career and the international opera world. Verdi's three masterpieces provide an early lo ok at the work of one of the world's great composers as we prepare for 202 6 celebrations of Verdi's life and career.
