Like other genres of Mexican art\, Mexican photography exhibits a tension between the modern and the Mesoamerican. S treet savvy\, elegant\, surreal\, or shocking&mdash\;or\, like Our Lady of the Iguanas\, all of the above&mdash\;Mexican photography shows us Mexico off the beaten track.
\nAvril Angevine is an arts lecturer with a p articular interest in modern\, contemporary\, and California art. She spea ks on many subjects at various locations in the Bay Area\, including the O LLI programs at Cal State East Bay\, Dominican College\, San Francisco Sta te\, and the Fromm Institute. Avril has a BA in English and an MA in Compa rative Literature from UC Berkeley and taught English and Humanities at lo cal colleges. She is also a museum guide at SFMOMA\, the Oakland Museum\, and the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art.
