X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p><em>About the authors:</em></p>\n<p><stron
g>Tara Pringle Jefferson</strong>&nbsp\;is the founder of The Self Care Su
ite\, a digital wellness community for Black women. A certified breathwork
  facilitator and wellness advocate\, her voice has been featured on&nbsp\;
 <em>New York</em>&nbsp\;magazine&rsquo\;s&nbsp\;The Cut\, <em>Black Enterp
 rise</em>\, and&nbsp\;<em>Essence</em>.&nbsp\;She&rsquo\;s delivered talks
on wellness for WW (formerly Weight Watchers)\, SiriusXM\, Wayfair\, Pric
eline\, and more. Born and raised in the Midwest\, she lives in Ohio with
her husband and two children.</p>\n<p><em><strong>Bloom How You Must</stro
ng></em> is a self-empowering wellness guide that celebrates the roots of
self-care and community care as a sustaining force for generations of Blac
 k women.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Self-care isn&rsquo\;t a trend among Black women\;
it has always been a throughline in our heritage. Consider Coretta Scott
King\, who along with fellow activists Betty Shabazz and Myrlie Evers-Will
iams\, would enjoy &ldquo\;girls&rsquo\; trips&rdquo\; to take a break fro
m the stress of the Civil Rights Movement. Remember their contemporary Ros
a Parks attended (and led) yoga classes while on the front lines for Black
rights in Detroit.</p>\n<p>Think of the enduring friendship between Oprah
Winfrey and Gayle King\, a sisterhood in which they have leaned on each o
ther for nearly forty years while thriving in the glaring media and entert
ainment spotlight.</p>\n<p>Picture Toni Morrison&rsquo\;s overflowing gard
ens and lush houseplants she tended while writing classics like&nbsp\;<em>
 Beloved&nbsp\;</em>and&nbsp\;<em>The Bluest Eye</em>.</p>\n<p>Recall Audre
Lord&rsquo\;s enduring declaration written after her second cancer diagno
sis: &ldquo\;Caring for myself is not self-indulgence\, it is self-preserv
ation\, and that is an act of political warfare.&rdquo\;</p>\n<p><em><stro
ng>Bloom How You Must</strong></em>&nbsp\;explores and expands on this sel
f-care legacy and shows how it can help every Black woman today.</p>\n<p><
strong>Tara Pringle Jefferson</strong> excavates the roots of self-care an
d community care as a sustaining force for generations of Black women and
transforms her findings into a blueprint women can follow in their daily l
ives. A blend of guidebook and journal\,&nbsp\;<strong><em>Bloom How You M
ust&nbsp\;</em></strong>explores several distinct pillars of wellness\, fe
 aturing:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Research from leading wellness experts</li>\n<li>I
nterviews with women aged 19&ndash\;99</li>\n<li>Stories of personal exper
ience</li>\n<li>Overviews and explanations of each component of self-care<
/li>\n<li>Dedicated pages for readers to reflect on each chapter</li>\n<li
 >Exercises to put wellness into practice</li>\n<li>Easy-to-follow explanat
ory graphics and sidebars</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br />With its diversity of insi
ghts\, practical skills and multigenerational focus\,&nbsp\;<strong><em>Bl
oom How You Must</em></strong>&nbsp\;is a love letter to the millions of B
lack women who want a less stressful life but don&rsquo\;t know where to b
 egin.&nbsp\;<strong><em>Bloom How You Must</em></strong>&nbsp\;gives them
the tools they need to improve their health and their daily lives.<br /><b
r />Tara Pringle Jefferson will be in conversation with <strong>Kortney Mo
 rrow</strong>\, poet\, writer\, and Program Director of the Anisfield-Wolf
Book Awards&mdash\;the nation's only juried prize dedicated to honoring w
riters that are writing about race.&nbsp\; Her work has received support f
rom 68to05\, The Academy of American Poets\, The Studio Museum in Harlem\,
  <em>Prairie Schooner</em>\, <em>Tin House</em>\, and <em>Transition Magaz
 ine</em>. Her debut poetry collection\, <strong><em>Run It Back</em></stro
ng>\, was the winner of the 2024 Saturnalia Books Poetry Prize\, judged by
Carmen Gim&eacute\;nez.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p><br /><em><strong>Books will be av
