This unique pa rticipatory history lesson fosters truth\, understanding and respect. Faci litated by Indigenous elders\, knowledge keepers and educators\, the Blank et Exercise is an experiential teaching tool that explores the historic an d contemporary relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in the land we now know as Canada.
\nThe Blanket Exercise is based o n Indigenous methodologies and the goal is to build understanding about ou r shared history as Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada by wal king through pre-contact\, treaty-making\, colonization and resistance. Ev eryone is actively involved as they step onto blankets that represent the land\, and into the role of First Nations\, Inuit and later Mé\;tis peoples. By engaging on an emotional and intellectual level\, the Blanket Exercise effectively educates and increases empathy. \;
