Artist's Statement
E
verything around us seems to constantly be fighting for our attention with
bright colors and intense imagery. Sometimes the things we need to focus
on most are the things that are not begging for our attention. These works
are simple and subtle and allow a space for a brief reprieve from the noi
se all around us. They act as a small reminder that it is okay to be quiet
and alone with our thoughts. Each piece holds layers of intrigue through
subtle embossments\, gentle screen printed gradients\, or hand sanded text
ures on the surface of glossy acrylic. Exploration of the visuals of each
piece will invite the viewer to have a quiet moment of introspection. Enjo
y your time of reprieve.
Artist's Bio
Educat
ed in printmaking at Utah State (BFA) and Indiana University (MFA) Jiggs h
as developed a distilled design vocabulary that he uses to create minimal
compositions. Jiggs is a Salt Lake local who teaches digital arts at the S
alt Lake Arts Academy. Most of his creative energy is used on finding inte
resting ways to teach his students these days.
