Drawing on collections in NPG and Archives of American Art\, especially lesbian and disability activism\, this panel features renowned artists reflecting on the relationship between capturin g images and recording voices. This artist-driven panel will include portr aits at the National Portrait Gallery and oral histories and materials fro m the Archives to reflect on portraiture&rsquo\;s power to effect change f or individuals and communities. Panelists include DC-based photographers J oan E. Biren and Leigh Mosley\, New York-based photographer Lola Flash\, a nd Chicago-based portrait painter Riva Lehrer. It will be moderated by Ben Gilliespie\, Head of Curatorial Affairs\, Archives of American Art\, Smit hsonian Institution.
