\nAn ode is a type of poem that celebrates someone\, something or an event. It is one of the oldest forms of poetry\, dating back several thousand years. Modern writer s use odes to celebrate absolutely anything they love\, making it a very f lexible and accessible type of poem. As long as you can think of something or someone you want to praise\, you can write an ode! In this free family writing workshop\, poet and local public school teacher Matthew Friday wi ll take participants through the entire writing process\, from generating ideas\, drafting the poem and editing it. The session will end with option al sharing of the work. \;This workshop is suitable for all ages\, and no previous experience is necessary. Matthew has taught odes with element ary school students and adults\, so all are welcome! \;

\nMatthew Friday \;is a local public school teache r\, storyteller for children and a published poet. Last year he had his fi rst two books of poetry published: \;The Residents \;(Fin ishing Line Press) and \;The Be-All and the End-All \;(Bo ttlecap Press). This year Bottlecap Press also published his book of haiku \, 'Strange Beauty'. Next year his first full length collection (100 poems ) called 'Wunderkammer' will be published by Kelsay Books.
