Discussion topic this month: How much do y ou feature weather conditions in your writing? Because the same weather pa tterns have been described for millennia\, it&rsquo\;s become much harder to &ldquo\;make it new\,&rdquo\; as Ezra Pound would insist we do. Weather imagery can be used symbolically as well as suggest nuances of personalit y in how characters respond to various conditions (for an obvious example\ , think of &ldquo\;To Build a Fire&rdquo\;).
\nFor February&rsquo\;s manuscripts\, if possible\, try to include a description of the weather\, or outdoor conditions. Great examples include Cormac McCarthy&rsquo\;s\, The Road\; Alfred Lansing&rsquo\;s Endurance\; John Stei nbeck&rsquo\;s The Grapes of Wrath\; and Jon Krackauer&rsquo\;s < em>Into Thin Air.
\nThe Night Writers Workshop discusses variou s topics within writing and provides a welcoming environment for peer feed back. The program is organized into two sections\, critique of submitted m anuscripts and discussion of writing topics.
