One of the most creatively expressive eras in American history\, The Harlem Renaissance was the first Afrocentric cu ltural movement in American history. Encompassing literature\, music\, phi losophy\, and visual art\, this presentation focuses on major visual artis ts whose work has influenced African American art through the present day. This talk focuses on the beginning of the Harlem Renaissance in 1917 thro ugh the next generation of artists concluding in the 1970s. Art historian Denise Laurin spent a month living in Harlem and being inspired by the cul tural influences she found there.
\nDenise Laurin has over twenty ye ars experience as a teaching artist and \;college professor. She holds an M.A. in Art History\, a B.A. in Studio Art \;and Art History\, and is recognized as an Advanced Communicator by \;Toastmasters Internati onal.
