This is presentation focused on the histor y of the Acadian people\, beginning with the early settlement of Acadia in 1604 and touching upon their daily lives and current events in these thri ving communities leading up to the period of the Acadian Expulsion beginni ng in 1755 in Nova Scotia. This presentation discusses the main events in the timeline of the Acadian Expulsion when the British forcibly removed ov er ten thousand people of the Acadian population from their homeland in wh at is now eastern Canada and thrusted them into exile and despair that spa nned for decades in different locations across the world. We will be notin g the devastating impacts of this great upheaval upon the Acadian communit y and concluding with their persistent determination to rebuild their live s\, remembering those lost and preserving a culture that still thrives to this very day.
\nNicole Gallant-Nunes is a professional and genetic genealogist \;from Massachusetts \;with over twenty years of exper ience specializing in Acadian\, French-Canadian and early New England ance stry. She has had her own genealogy business\, Treasured Trees Genealogy S ervices\, for the last \;several \;years\, assisting \;hundred s of \;clients with a wide range of research projects. She is an activ e member of several genealogical societies and volunteers her time at \;research centers educating people on \;many topics pertaining to gen ealogical research. \;She \;has been an \;expert guest speaker \;and \;has published several extensive research projects on Acad ian and French-Canadian topics \;over the last few years. She is a fre quent contributor \;of original records \;and reliable sources&nbs p\;to \;early \;Acadian profiles on WikiTree as part of the esteem ed Acadians Project. She is also the administrator of several Acadian and French-Canadian genealogy Facebook groups in order to help answer question s or guide people in their research. She is currently working on her Acadi an Expulsion Memorial List Project in which she has set out to list every Acadian who was lost \;during \;the Acadian Expulsion by name.&nbs p\;This project now \;has over 5\,000 Acadians listed \;and \; she \;is still actively researching for that project.
