 g" width="162" height="232" /></p>\n<p>Filippo Strozzi was born into one o
f Florence&rsquo\;s wealthiest families. But he (together with his sibling
s and parents) was stripped of his wealth and sent into exile by the Medic
i family for daring to challenge their ascendancy. Filippo&rsquo\;s father
died tragically of plague while Filippo was still very young\, leaving hi
s mother\, Alessandra\, to manage the family&rsquo\;s affairs and her sons
&rsquo\; educations (masterfully one might add). Through years of painful
absence from Florence\, Filippo learned the art of banking. His new-found
personal affluence and his political talents led the Medici family to even
tually allow his return to his native city\, where he grew his family&rsqu
o\;s wealth so that it would rival (and even surpass) Florence&rsquo\;s we
althiest families. His crowning achievement was building one of the most f
abulous palaces in Renaissance Florence: a palace that overshadowed even t
 hat of the Medici's.</p>\n<h3>About the Presenter</h3>\n<p><img src="https

at Dr. Landon drew to Lorenzo di Filippo Strozzi has re-invigorated Italia
n and Anglophone scholarship dedicated to the famous\, but historically ne
glected\, Strozzi.</p>\n<p>In the past few years\, Dr. Landon has dedicate
d a good deal of his scholarly energy to bringing Machiavelli&rsquo\;s con
tributions to western political thought to the public&rsquo\;s attention b
y writing and performing <em>Books That Matter: The Prince for The Great C
ourses</em>. He has also written and performed a very successful series on

ious legacy. Dr. Landon's most recent production for The Great Courses on
The Medici Family and their impact on the Renaissance has been released vi
a the Wondrium label.</p>\n<p>Outside of his academic interests\, Dr. Land
on co-operates a small organic farm and he serves as the Vice-Chair of the
