Alma Thomas (1 891&ndash\;1978) was a trailblazing artist who overcame the harsh realitie s of racism\, segregation\, and prejudice to achieve remarkable success. A s a Black woman in her time\, she broke barriers with her vibrant\, colorf ul abstract art that reflected her radiant creative spirit.
\nIn thi s special program in celebration of Black History Month\, we&rsquo\;ll exp lore Thomas's iconic artwork Resurrection (1966)\, which made his tory as the first piece by a Black woman to be displayed in the public spa ces of the White House and to join its permanent collection in 2015. Parti cipants will have the chance to create their own Resurrection-ins pired painting - no prior painting experience needed.
\nFor kids age s 8 to 12 years old. Please register each child attending.
\nPlease note\, a caregiver must remain in the library while children under 10 year s of age attend a program.
