In 1776\, New England was full of music - in kitchens\, workshops\, churches\, and on the battlefield. \;Ballads carried the news of the day\, especially important to those who could not read. And when the sun went down\, there was nothing better than a 40-ver se ballad full of bloody plot twists to while away the evening.
\nDi ane presents songs that were enjoyed by both sides during the American Rev olution\, exploring the fascinating world behind the lyrics. She sings and accompanies herself on mountain dulcimer and an instrument similar to the English guitar\, which was played by women in Colonial times. \;

\nFor years\, Diane Taraz has been writing her own songs and breathing new life into traditional ones. She br ings a dry wit and a light touch to explain the intricacies of her music. Audiences listen entranced as she sings a cappella\, a challenging style a t which she excels. \;Dirty Linen \;magazine calls her a "fine\, i nventive guitarist" and she plays lap dulcimer with equal passion.
\nOn her two dozen CDs and in concert\, Diane delves into fascinating corne rs of music. She draws inspiration from Celtic\, British\, French-Canadian \, American folklore and jazz. \nBorn in the Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts. Diane ha s long made her home in the Boston area. For over a decade she directed th e Lexington Historical Society Colonial Singers. She is on the Scholarly A dvisory Board of the Gilder-Lehrman Institute for American History in New York City. Diane currently sings with the Concord Women's Chorus.
