\ nFabienne Josaphat \;was born and raised in Haiti\, and graduated w ith an MFA in Creative Writing from Florida International University. Of h er first novel\, \;Dancing in the Baron&rsquo\;s Shadow \;publishe d with Unnamed Press\, Edwidge Danticat said\, &ldquo\;Filled with life\, suspense\, and humor\, this powerful first novel is an irresistible read a bout the nature of good and evil\, terror and injustice\, and ultimately t riumph and love.&rdquo\; Her second novel \;Kingdom of No Tomorrow\, i s the winner of the 2023 PEN Bellwether Prize for Socially Engaged Fiction and was \;longlisted for the 2025 Aspen Words Literary Prize. The New York Times calls it "Muscular\, searing... \;a novel for our times."& nbsp\;In addition to fiction\, Josaphat writes non-fiction and poetry\, as well as screenplays. Her work has been featured in \;The African Amer ican Review\, \;The Washington Post\, \;Teen Vogue\, \;The Mas ter&rsquo\;s Review\, \;Grist Journal\, \;Damselfly\, Hinchas de P oesia\, Off the Coast Journal \;and \;The Caribbean Writer. Her po ems have been anthologized in \;Eight Miami Poets\, a Jai-Alai Books p ublication. Fabienne Josaphat lives in South Florida.

\nStart the New Year READING with Broward County Libraries annual initiat ive One Book One Broward (OBOB). \; Join all who live\, learn\, work a nd play in Broward County from January 1 to February 28\, 2026 to build de eper connections through a single book community read. \; This year&rs quo\;s theme Our Nature: How Our Physical Environment Can Lead Us to Seek Hope\, Courage\, and Connection will be guided by the matrilinear storytel ling in the novel &ldquo\;The Seed Keeper&rdquo\; by Diane Wilson and the youth companion book &ldquo\;The First Blade of Sweetgrass&rdquo\; by Suza nne Greenlaw and Gabriel Frey. From Sawgrass to Seagrass\, residents and v isitors will participate in beach side\, board walk\, and trail head book discussions\, presentations\, programs\, workshops and a festival kick-off at ArtLit on January 10. \; This initiative will provide human connec tion\, cultural heritage preservation\, and diverse perspectives that enab le deeper understanding of our community while celebrating reading in Sout h-Florida&rsquo\;s great outdoors.
