DESCRIPTION:Join us virtually and learn skills for assessing the credibili
ty of information from different outlets and strategies for building a set
  of reliable sources..\nhttps://hplibrary.libnet.info/event/15105972
X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>Our media ecosystem today is increasingly
messy\, with a mix of professionally produced and user-generated content t
hat often blurs together on platforms like YouTube\, Facebook\, and TikTok
. The rapid rise of artificial intelligence has added yet another layer of
complexity\, making it even easier for misleading or fabricated material
to appear credible.</p>\n<p>Dr. Michael A. Spikes\, of Northwestern Univer
sity&rsquo\;s Medill School of Journalism\, explores how this blending of
 sources&mdash\;and now AI-generated material&mdash\;creates a &ldquo\;blur
ring of the lines&rdquo\; between types of content\, making it harder to k
now what to trust. Attendees leave with practical skills for assessing the
credibility of information from different outlets and strategies for buil
ding a set of reliable sources to return to regularly.</p>\n<p>Join us on
Zoom or attend the event in person at<a href="https://www.schaumburglibrar
y.org/"> Schaumburg Township District Library</a>.</p>\n<p>About the Speak
 er:&nbsp\;Michael Spikes\, Ph.D.\, has been teaching\, writing about\, and
developing curriculum on the subject of news media literacy and its produ
ction for more than 15 years. Currently\, he is a Professor of Practice an
d the Program Director of Teach for Chicago Journalism at the Medill Schoo
l of Journalism at Northwestern University. Before joining Northwestern\,
Michael was a project manager for the Center for News Literacy at Stony Br
ook University.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Presented with multiple Illinois libraries
and the League of Women Voters of the Palatine\, Schaumburg\, and Barringt
