 l discuss <em>Rurouni Kenshin\, Vol 1</em> by Nobuhiro Watsuki.<em></em></
 p>\n<p>Himura Kenshin\, a former assassin from the Bakumatsu era\, wanders
  Japan as a rurouni (wandering swordsman) during the peaceful Meiji Restor
 ation. He vowed to no longer kill and\, instead\, now protects the innocen
 t as a way to atone for his past. Upon arriving in Tokyo\, he meets the sw
 ordswoman Kamiya Kaoru\, who runs a dojo and is harassed by the criminal H
 itokiri Battōsai. After Kenshin defeats the fake Battōsai\, Kaoru of
 fers him a place to stay\, and they begin to form a bond.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p><
